This week, Mary Jane and Annabel are inviting parents to learn more about Montessori math in the elementary. As with all elementary work, we begin with stories and experiments and demonstrations. The uniquely imaginative mind of the 6-12 year old instinctively and excitedly grasps abstract ideas through the use of our special manipulative materials.
The materials are not a means to learning a concept alone, but to aid the development of the child’s mathematical mind, the body (fine motor control is built in!), and the spirit – the thrill of invention! Just like the ancients, the children create and solve problems based on reality and their interests.
Whether your child is in lower or upper el. or AMP, stop by Thursday, Feb. 2 at 6 p.m. for a little exploration of your own and perhaps a window into understanding the work of your child from day to day!
MAPs testing for 2nd-8th graders is this Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.
Montessori Borealis Spelling Bee – this Friday February 3.
Time is to be announced.
